BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College women’s golf team will tee off Monday morning in the Flagler Fall Slam at Marsh Creek Country Club in St. Augustine.

The Titans will be one of 14 teams competing in the two-day tournament on the par-72 course. The team is coming off a win at the Wallace State Fall Invitational but will face some of the best NCAA Division II teams in the country.

“Flagler is a different event, it is a Division II event, so we are in the deep end of the pool this week,” Eastern Florida State College women’s golf coach Jamie Howell said.

“It is a different field than we saw at the Wallace State event. It will be a tough one for the girls but I am not worried about that, my goal for them is to learn what we did well at Wallace State and what we can work on and just take care of our business, and see how we do. It will be a tough test. This is a strong field.”

Among the teams in the field are defending NJCAA Division I national champion Seminole State, NCAA Division II’s Nova Southeastern, and host Flagler which are ranked in the East Regional rankings.

Sophomore Gracie Doke along with freshmen Jenna Barnett, Emma Parker, Brittany Odic, and Jaida Furlow will tee off at 8:30 a.m. with Coastal Georgia. Barnett is coming off her first collegiate win and Doke finished second in the tournament.

“The team is five freshmen and one sophomore, so they have had no choice but to step up and they all just go to work. They step up and work on what they need to get better at and from a coaching standpoint, you can’t ask for more than that,” Howell said.

The teams will play 18 holes each day.
