BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech opened its season with an impressive effort on Sunday at the Head of the Charles Regatta.
Competing in the men’s Championship Fours against a slew of strong Division I opponents, Tech finished seventh overall in the competition with a time of 17:02.093.
On the three-mile course, the Panthers were in 11th place at the first checkpoint with a 4:04.677 time.
They moved into the top 10 at the second post with a 9:35.015 (8th) mark before moving up one more spot to take seventh at the third timing point with a 14:21.003. The Panthers settled in for the remainder of the race, claiming seventh overall with a 17:02.093 mark.
Princeton’s “A” boat won the event at 16:33.467, but the Panthers were able to hold off the likes of Oregon State, Cornell “B”, Wisconsin, Princeton “B”, and Georgetown “B”.
COACHES CORNER:
“I am really proud of the guy’s performance today,” said head coach Adam Thorstad.
“They faced off against some of the toughest competition in the country, big-name schools, and had a really good performance. They fought really hard and came back from being down at the beginning to finish pretty strong in the middle of the pack.”
